Over at The Nibble is the complete list of all food holidays for February. I’m only highlighting the ones I care about (selfish, I know).

You can always just head over there and update your calendar with whatever suits your fancy.  I plan to observe the following…

  • February 2 – National Carrot Cake Day– Which I may make as Carrot Cake Cookies
  • February 4 – Homemade Soup Day – So many to choose from – maybe Ina Garten’s Tomato Soup
  • February 5 – National Chocolate Fondue Day – Do I really need to add anything?
  • February 10 – Cream Cheese Brownie Day  – Yum – just Yum
  • February 12 – National Plum Pudding Day – And maybe some Sherlock or Call the Midwife or Lord Peter Wimsey
  • February 18 – Crab-Stuffed Flounder Day – Start looking for good recipe now
  • February 20 – National Cherry Pie Day – My Dad’s favorite (mine too, along with Lemon Cream – not a fan of meringue)
  • February 21 – National Sticky Bun Day – All I can say is “Ye Old College Dinner” – State College, PA – order some!
  • February 22 – National Margarita Day – Even though I’m a teetotaler…
  • February 23 – National Banana Bread Day – So – what’s your preference – bread or muffins?
  • February 27 – National Strawberry Day – Harbinger of Spring 🙂
  • February 28 – National Chili Day – To Bean or Not To Bean?
  • February 28 – National Chocolate Souffle Day – AKA National Heaven on Earth Day
  • February 29 – National Surf & Turf Day – The most elusive of them all


So there you have it – some tasty things going on in February.  Hopefully I will have more recipes.  January was kind of meh in that department, but I’m going to see it as leaving room for improvement (or maybe a guest recipe) 🙂

Stormageddon Cometh

It’s OK everyone.  I know you’ve all heard that we’re due to get some global warming here in Chucktown, but there’s nothing to worry about.

Oh really?  How so?

Well, you see, this morning I went to the grocery store at 0700 and bought 9 gallons of water.  Voila!  Crisis averted.

(So I actually bought some sterno as well but that only because we’re out and how do you make s’mores with out the sterno?)

Anyhoo, y’all can rest easy.   I’ve done the heavy lifting and there’s nothing to worry about.

No – really – I went to the grocery store early in the morning and bought water.  It’s the #1 weapon in my Bad Weather Prevention arsenal (works well for hurricanes too).

So, What Happened to Dinner?

You noticed?

Yes – there’s no dinner and this is why…

Call from Iseult 1630…

Iseult: “Hey Mama”
Me:      “Hi Baby”
Iseult: “So, like are you going to the meeting?”
Me:     “What meeting?”
Iseult: “The meeting at school?”
Me:    “What meeting at school?”
Iseult: “The one tonight”
Me:     “When is it?”
Iseult: “I’m not sure. Sometime tonight.”
Me:     “What’s it about?”
Iseult: “I’m not sure. It’s for parents of Freshmen and Sophomores”
Me:     “When did you hear about this?”
Iseult: “I’m not sure. I think we got a note about it on Tuesday.”
Me:     “And you’re telling me now”
Iseult: “Well, I just didn’t know if you were going to go.”
Me:     “You know, it’s hard for me to attend something I don’t know about.”
Iseult: “Yes.  Guess it’s a good thing I asked.”


Iseult:  “So, like, what’s for dinner”?”


Sneak Peak at Supper – or “What is that Green Goo on your Chicken?”

Looks gross now. Well, just wait until later…

Looks disgusting doesn’t it?  Well, just hold on there, cowboy, it only looks disgusting NOW.  Later on, after it’s marinated for several hours and has spent a little time on the grill, it will be eyeball-rolling-delish.  Actually, it’s a kind of Tandoori Chicken and I’ll post the “after” picture, along with the recipe later on this evening.

Until then, work hard and dream of tasty chicken….


Stuff I love – “Lemon Suhgah” Sugah Scrub

One of my CCD students gave me a little jar of this amazing sugar scrub for Christmas.  I’m now well and truly hooked!  This stuff smells wonderful and makes your hands feel so freakin good you’ll be wondering whose they are.  In addition to the Lemon Sugah scrub, there’s a host of other delights, like Lemon Sugah Honey Butter and Lemon Sugah Bath Soak.  And that’s only one of their product lines.  Valentine’s Day will be here soon and I can’t imagine a lovelier gift than one of the delightful products from the Charleston Soap Chef.

Let me also add that this stuff really makes your hands smell good!  I was peeling about a thousand onions the other day and a nice little 5-minute massage with this scrub removed all traces of onion AND it didn’t mess up my manicure either (which is a big deal to me).

And no, nobody paid me to say anything nice about them.  It’s all on me!

This is my Father’s favorite picture of him and me.  Six months ago I couldn’t even look at it.  But now, well, they’re all together and I think I’m ready to stop mourning.
