A Little Dinner Conversation

on November 5, 2013

Iseult:                   So my report card is awesome and I have a 100 in theology

Angharad:           is it a quarter grade or semester grade

Me:                        It’s a progress report

Angharad:             what does it say on NetClassroom?

Me:                        I’m not sure.  Haven’t been out there.

Iseult:                   What’s the big deal with NetClassroom?

Angharad:           You can’t actually have a 100

Me:                        Of course she can get a 100.  The grading system clearly indicates it.

Angharad:           Yes, but she can’t get one for a final grade.

Me:                        That’s ridiculous.

Iseult:                   So what happens if I keep getting 100’s on my stuff in theology?

Angharad:           Your teacher will have to drop one of your grades a point.

Me:                        What the %$#@!^&*&*

BOTH:                   LANGUAGE MAMA!

Me:                        Apologies.  What’s this about dropping a grade?  You mean to tell me they will falsify a grade.  That’s totally unacceptable!  OK, clearly I need to have a little conversation with the school.

Iseult:                   Nice going there A!

Angharad:           Yep – should have kept my mouth shut.

Iseult:                   Mama, really, it’s fine.  You don’t need to go there.

Me:                        Uh, yes, actually I do if they’re changing grades.

Angharad:           I don’t suppose you could just leave it, could you?

Me:                        Not damn likely.

Iseult:                   Mama, really don’t do this to me.

Me:                        Um, you people DO know what I do for a living don’t you?

Both:                     Yes…

Me:                        And yet you persist in thinking that I can’t make a discreet inquiry of some HS office clerk regarding the grading policy.  Really, people?  REALLY?

Angharad:           Well, there is that.

(and it all ended up being a tempest in a teapot anyway…..)

Why do I get the feeling that the conversation was more nuanced than the transcript?

Just out of curiousity, what do you do for a living? It almost sounds like “detective” or something.

LOL – no detective work. But often the type of information I deal with (deployments, destinations, etc.) are things that can’t be discussed outright in some cases, so lots of times I end up having discussions in which the matter being discussed is never directly raised or referred to – but it still has to occur. Makes for some interesting conversation. 🙂 .
